My Grandmother, Altana Penfield Brandenburg, was the inspiration for a family interest in genealogy. She was a descendant of John Howland of the Mayflower. In this family tree, I have collected histories from my grandmother, from the researches of my late cousin Sarah Golda Brandenburg Sitz, from a newly discovered cousin on my mother's Corzine side, and from my own delvings. I have traveled to Kinellar, Aberdeenshire, Scotland to see the church my ancestor Arthur Mitchell served in the 18th century, stopped at the site of the Iowa farm of Washington Maxwell and his wife Leah Mitchell---I have followed the usual routes through libraries and city streets, farm lanes and on-line links to look for these sometimes elusive, always fascinating ancestors. I hope you find something of interest on this site.
